Fatal Pennsylvania Truck Accident
Earlier this month a 26 year-old man from Greensburg was killed in a truck accident in Somerset County. The man died after a collision occurred between a tractor-trailer and passenger car on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The collision forced the closure of a 36-mile stretch of the eastbound highway near the Allegheny Tunnel.
Although not much information was available about the victim or the potential cause of the crash, tragic accidents like this are a reminder of how dangerous collisions between cars and big rigs can be. The sheer size and weight of commercial trucks gives them the potential to inflict catastrophic and fatal injuries in the event of an accident.
Potential causes of accidents include: driver fatigue, distracted driving, unsecured cargo, oversized loads, hazardous road conditions, neglected maintenance or unqualified drivers.
Remedies Available to Motor Vehicle Accident Victims
If you have been seriously or permanently injured in a motor vehicle accident you may be entitled to recover damages. Such damages may include recovery for medical and hospital expenses, the cost of ongoing care and treatment, lost earnings, compensation for pain and suffering and potentially punitive damages.
If you experience the loss of a loved one in a fatal accident you also have potential causes of action for a lawsuit. These include a survival action holding the negligent party responsible for the pain and suffering the victim endured, and a wrongful death claim for the deprivation of the deceased’s love and companionship and monetary contributions to the household.
